GREENFIELD AND MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. — October 27, 2026. Employers across Monterey County, including businesses in the southern Salinas Valley, could continue receiving human-resources guidance and workplace training under a proposed one-year extension of the county Workforce Development Board’s contract with the California Employers Association (CEA).

The October 20 Board of Supervisors agenda lists item A 26-423, seeking approval of an additional $22,428 in services for the period ending September 30, 2027. The proposal would raise the agreement’s cumulative not-to-exceed ceiling to $65,978; that is not the cost of the additional year by itself.

What kind of help is being offered?

The county’s detailed staff report says the Workforce Development Board has contracted with CEA since 2020 to provide a human-resources hotline from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, plus webinars, workshops and other employment-related business services. The hotline is intended to assist employers with workforce and personnel questions, though businesses should confirm their eligibility, enrollment and service terms with the county program.

This is a business-support program, not an announcement of a new government hiring drive or a guarantee that callers will receive legal representation. For complex employment-law disputes, employers and employees may need professional advice beyond general information.

How is it financed?

The proposed extension uses federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Rapid Response funding already included in the county workforce budget. County staff say approval would have no new impact on the county General Fund.

The public record describes the board’s requested amendment, but the October 20 meeting’s full minutes were still pending in the official calendar when checked. Accordingly, the article does not imply that future hotline availability or the contract extension has been independently confirmed.
